Microwave selective heating of electric arc furnace dust constituents toward sustainable recycling: Contribution of electric and magnetic fields

Microwave heating of waste electric arc furnace dust (EAFD) for the purpose its remediation has been studied extensively. However, these studies considered EAFD as a bulk material without addressing either relative response individual constituents or specific interactions with magnetic fields an electromagnetic wave. In this work, we present study contribution wave components to using separated and microwave fields. ZnO, ZnFe2O4, Fe3O4, graphite were found be main contributors based on their dielectric properties profiles. ZnO ZnFe2O4 heated only in field yielding temperatures 846 720 °C after 30 40 s, respectively at power input 118 ± 12 W. Fe3O4 graphite, contrast, both owing respective conductive nature. It is suggested that selective significant implications extraction zinc lead through thermal treatment halogenated plastics such polyvinyl chloride (PVC).
